Rehabilitative Ultrasound

An effective, non-invasive method to visualize the action of the muscles during functional tasks.

RUI is defined as "a procedure used by physical therapists to evaluate muscle and related soft tissue morphology and function during exercise and physical tasks…and is used to assist in the application of therapeutic interventions aimed at improving neuromuscular function."

At Progress Physical Therapy - Midlothian, we use RUI clinically as a real time dynamic assessment and treatment tool to improve function of the musculoskeletal system including transverse abdominis, multifidus and pelvic floor muscles. RUI is an effective, non-invasive method to visualize the action of the muscles during functional tasks, and can be used to treat numerous conditions such as pelvic pain, low back pain, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, dysfunctional voiding, and constipation.

Application of RUI is covered by insurance plans as neuromuscular re-education or therapeutic exercise, and performed in conjunction with other manual and exercise therapies during your regular evaluation or treatment session.
